How to play One Piece Card Game
The One Piece Card Game is the hottest new TCG on our shelves — anime flavor with genuinely sharp gameplay. You pick a Leader (Luffy, Zoro, Kaido, whoever fits your style), build a 50-card deck in their colors, and manage DON!! cards — a ramping resource you re-spend every turn — to power characters and swing at the enemy Leader until their Life runs out.
- Players
- 2
- Game length
- 20–40 minutes
- Deck size
- 50 cards + 1 Leader + 10 DON!!
- Great for ages
- 10+
What you need
- A Leader card, a 50-card deck matching your Leader's colors, and a 10-card DON!! deck (starter decks include everything)
- A playmat or table space with zones for Leader, Characters, Life, and DON!!
- That's it — Life is tracked with cards from your own deck
Setting up
- 1Place your Leader in the Leader area and shuffle your 50-card deck.
- 2Draw 5 cards. You may mulligan once — shuffle back and draw a new 5.
- 3Place cards from the top of your deck face down equal to your Leader's Life value (usually 4 or 5) — this is your Life pile.
- 4Rock–paper–scissors for first turn. First player starts with 1 DON!!, second player with 2.
How a turn works
01Refresh
Return all your spent DON!! to your cost area and set your rested (sideways) cards upright.
02Draw & DON!!
Draw a card, then add 2 DON!! from your DON!! deck (until all 10 are out). Your resources grow every turn — the game accelerates fast.
03Main phase
Spend DON!! to play Characters and Events, or attach DON!! to your Leader/Characters to give +1000 power each. Attack with your Leader and Characters: target the enemy Leader or their rested Characters.
04Battle
Defender may play Counter cards from hand to boost power. If an attack on a Leader lands, they take 1 Life — and the Life card goes to their hand (Trigger effects may fire!).
05End of turn
Attached DON!! return to your cost area. Pass the turn — and plan your counters for the swing back.
How you win
- Attack the enemy Leader when they have 0 Life cards left — that final hit wins the game
- Your opponent has to draw and their deck is empty
Words you'll hear at the table
- Leader
- Your avatar. Sets your deck's colors, has a Life value and a power, and can attack every turn.
- DON!!
- The resource system: pay DON!! to play cards, or attach them for +1000 power per DON!!. They refresh every turn — spend freely.
- Life
- Face-down cards from your own deck. Taking damage sends a Life card to your hand — losing life literally gives you options.
- Counter
- A value on many cards (+1000/+2000) you can pitch from hand during the enemy's attack to survive.
- Blocker
- A keyword that lets a Character step in front of an attack aimed at someone else.
- Trigger
- A bonus effect on some cards that activates for free when they're flipped from your Life pile. Comebacks are built in.
- Rush
- A keyword letting a Character attack the turn it's played — no summoning sickness here.
- Rested
- Turned sideways after attacking or being used. Rested Characters can be attacked by anything.
Beginner tips from the shop
- 1.Grab any starter deck (ST-21 Luffy and the film Red decks are great) — they're legitimately playable and cheap.
- 2.Don't hoard DON!! — unspent DON!! is wasted power. Attach extras to your Leader every turn.
- 3.Keep 1–2 Counter cards in hand at all times; free wins come from opponents who can't defend.
- 4.Attack with your Leader first, then decide where your Characters swing based on the counters they burn.
